Hurricane Preparedness Survey

Hurricane Preparedness Survey

Summer is almost here. For coastal South Carolina, that means now is the time to prepare for storm season. Do you have a hurricane preparedness plan? Are you planning to evacuate if the order is given? Do you need help evacuating? Many members of the parish are preparing to help each other in case a major storm strikes the area.

One of the first things being done is an update of the St. John’s Parish Church Hurricane Preparedness Survey. Click here to fill out the survey. The survey will also be available at Resurrection Hall and at Haut Gap on Sundays for the next few weeks. Please fill out the survey and return it to the parish office, so we can update our disaster survey needs list.

The International Order of St Vincent

The International Order of St Vincent

The International Order of St Vincent (OSV) is a worldwide fellowship of lay sanctuary ministers of all ages serving the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We promote liturgical knowledge, understanding of ritualistic detail and meaning, and encourage intercessory prayer and holy living among our members. The OSV is sacramentally centered and encourages living a rule of life (we pray, worship, read, and give).

For more information or to get involved, please contact the
Director General (and a member of St. John’s Parish Church), Philip G Dixon, PO Box 1245, Summerville SC 29484, (843) 442-1288 (leave message).

Do You Have a Story to Tell?

Do You Have a Story to Tell?

St. John's Parish Church is working on a new publication to share how the Lord is moving in our parish. Have you been moved by how the Lord is working in your life? Have you participated in a ministry or event and seen His presence? Consider sharing your testimony so others may see the Lord's glory.

Please submit your story to Timothy as a Word compatible document without exceeding 1000 words. If you are not comfortable writing, please still contact Timothy. We will work with you.

Ministry of the Week

Ministry of the Week

Youth Ministry

Youth discipleship is a journey which starts at home and is supported by the work of the church. The desire of our Youth Ministry is to see the gospel of Jesus Christ shared with students in an age appropriate way that they can interact with. We want youth group to be relevant, fun, and Anglican in its expression.  We do this through bible study, the liturgies found in the Book of Common Prayer, and plenty of games to keep us smiling.  The youth group meets on Sunday afternoons and is currently followed by our confirmation classes.

Lowcountry Pregnancy Center

Lowcountry Pregnancy Center

We recently heard about the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center on Sunday Morning. Please note the below takeaways from it.

•The recent banquet was attended by Jonathon and Katie, Libby and Thomas, Walt, Gem(Marlene) and Jeff and Nancy
•The Center’s aim is to provide women with the resources and skills they need to say yes to their pregnancy.
•This year the Banquet raised a record $507,000! This will provide the wonderful array of services they have given in the past and also help begin the process of building a new Center!

The staff and volunteers in the Center:
•Visited more than 5000 women last year
•Provided 1300 pregnancy tests and counseling
•Provided 20 postabortion classes
•Provided 1100 parenting classes
•Utilized 50+ volunteers

The Center needs all kinds of volunteers from those with special skills like teaching and counseling to those simply willing to be a compassionate listener and comfort to someone in a struggle.

A Prayer for our Parish

Dear Heavenly Father,

Together we are united with the saints of the household of God; built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself being the cornerstone. In Christ alone our church is being joined together, and is growing into a holy temple of the Lord by the Spirit. By Your wisdom may we discern what You want us to build; Through Jesus Christ our Lord and the power of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
