Lighting the Way

Lighting the Way

A Night of Advent Preparation

Join us at 5pm, November 30, in Resurrection Hall as we prepare for the Advent season. We will have a time of devotion, build advent wreaths (or refresh one you already have), learn about St Nicholas, and eat dinner. This is an opportunity for all of us to prepare our hearts for the season of Advent.

We are looking for a handful of people to prepare soup for dinner that evening. If you are able to help, please let Rob Schluter know.

Christmas Collection for Juvenile Detention Center

St. John's Parish Church hopes to point the youth at the Charleston County Youth Detention Center to Jesus by blessing them with fifty Jesus bags this Christmas. The Detention Center houses 13-17 year-old youth, mostly males with a few females. We can bless them with bags filled with items for personal hygiene, snacks and Christmas Cards. Take a look at the list and consider donating to help reach these youths.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child

111 Boxes Collected

A huge thanks to everyone who participated in the Operation Christmas Child project through Samaritan’s Purse.  St. John’s packed 111 shoeboxes!  They are on their way now to the Charlotte warehouse where they will be prepared for shipping.  If you chose to use the “track your shoebox” code, don’t forget to check back in late December and going forward to see which country your shoebox was delivered.

Most importantly, please pray for the recipients, that they will come to know Jesus through The Greatest Journey discipleship program and the love you showed them in Christ as well as that the recipients’ families will be open to hearing about our Savior as well.

A Letter from The Rt. Rev. Jeremiah Paul Koryom

Please see below a letter we recently recieved from Bp Jeremiah who visited St John's Parish Church before New Wineskins this year.

Dear People of St John's Parish Church,

Very many thanks and appreciations for the generous support  and prayers. I have a fond memories of you all and I greatly rejoice in the Lord for you always. St. John has been and shall always be my American home Church. These precious donations will serve a purpose in the life of the Anglican Diocese of Gambella.

Please pass my humble thanks and appreciation to all those who gave this generous donations. My God shall supply all your needs and the needs of St. John's Parish Church (Phil.4:19).

I always refer St. John's as a Church praying under a tree, and for this I earnestly pray God will provide for work and the ministry of St. John's congregations. You're one of the living, vibrant Anglican Churches on the planet, earth. Therefore, I thank God for you all.

We always pray for Fr. Jeremy, his family and you all. I love my men's Bible Study Group and they are so dear to me. Greet them for me.

As of now we are going through a season of Fasting and Prayer for 21 days, which I would call 'Time alone with the Lord.' And be assured that you are in the cycle of the many prayers we are offering to God.

Many blessings to you all,

The Rt. Rev. Jeremiah Paul Koryom
Diocese Bishop of the Anglican Diocese Diocese Ethiopia

What's Happening in Our Children's Ministry

What's Happening in Our Children's Ministry

Our Sunday School kids have been learning about Moses, a faithful shepherd who listened to God’s voice, along with other Bible heroes like Jonah and David. Each lesson teaches stewardship and thanksgiving, helping children grow in gratitude and faith.

We’re so thankful for our amazing volunteers who make each Sunday special! As we move into Advent and Christmas, we look forward to a special program on December 21, led by Susan Baker, Angie Baughman, Kristi Beck and Julie Stroble.

Celebrating the Ministry of Jessica Shelton & the Shelton family

Celebrating the Ministry of Jessica Shelton & the Shelton family

We want want to recognize Jessica Shelton and the entire Shelton family (Will, Ben, Hayes and Laurie). Without their love and support our rector could not do the ministry he has been called to for such a time as this. They set an example for all of us as a family in ministry together. Thank you to the entire Shelton family for having a servant's hearts and the ministry you do at St. John’s Parish Church.

Hospitality

Hospitality

Did you know that according to Barna Research, 40% of visitors make up their minds about a church before they see the pastor, and within their first two minutes of a service, they have already formed an opinion about whether the congregation is friendly?

Gracious hospitality is the heart of what it means to welcome people. Whether serving as a greeter who smiles and says good morning at the door, an usher who escorts a visitor to the right place, or a server of coffee and pastries, our first interactions will show people that the world is a more hospitable place because of Jesus.

A Prayer for our Parish

Dear Heavenly Father,

Together we are united with the saints of the household of God; built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself being the cornerstone. In Christ alone our church is being joined together, and is growing into a holy temple of the Lord by the Spirit. By Your wisdom may we discern what You want us to build; Through Jesus Christ our Lord and the power of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
